DUBAI, February 28, 2026 (WAM) -- Dutch player Tallon Griekspoor, ranked 25th in the world, has reached the final of the 34th Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships (ATP 500) and will face Russian Daniil Medvedev in the championship match. Griekspoor secured his place in the final by defeating world number 18 and 2022 champion Andrey Rublev of Russia in a semifinal that lasted one hour and 45 minutes, with set scores of 7-5, 7-6. This victory marked Griekspoor's first win against Rublev after three previous losses and made him the first Dutch player to reach the Dubai final in the tournament's history. In the other semifinal, Medvedev, ranked 11th in the world and the tournament's third seed, advanced to the final by defeating Canada's eighth seed and tournament top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets of 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 24 minutes. Medvedev, who won the Dubai championship in 2023, aims to capture the trophy for a second time. A victory would mark his first successful title defense in his career, as his previous 22 titles were won at 22 different tournaments, none of which were defended. Griekspoor had eliminated Medvedev in three sets during last year's tournament quarterfinals, adding a revenge narrative to the upcoming final between the two players.
