RTA upgrades Al Qiyadah Intersection, cuts peak waiting times by 15%

DUBAI, 3rd September, 2026 (WAM) -- Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) initiated a series of traffic improvements at Al Qiyadah Intersection to improve movement towards Abu Hail and Salah Al Din Streets.The works included adding a new lane from Al Ittihad Road for traffic heading from Dubai towards Abu Hail and Salah Al Din Streets, alongside upgrades to the intersection layout and traffic signals — improving traffic flow and easing vehicle movement along Al Ittihad Road and the surrounding network.The upgrade forms part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to develop the road network and enhance its efficiency, keeping pace with Dubai’s urban and population growth and rising traffic volumes, while strengthening the network’s capacity to meet both current demand and future growth.The improvements included a new left-turn lane from Al Ittihad Road onto Abu Hail Street towards Salah Al Din Street, created by utilizing parallel parking spaces and part of the central median, thus increasing traffic capacity and improving the intersection’s operational efficiency.These upgrades will streamline movement between the local road network and the main Al Ittihad Road corridor, while improving traffic flow at the surrounding approaches and exits. RTA expects improvements to increase the intersection’s capacity and cut waiting times by up to 15% during peak periods, easing congestion and delivering a smoother experience for road users.The works also included recalibrating traffic signal timings to suit the new lane configuration, together with paving and rehabilitation works covering sections of the road and pavements, as well as concrete barriers associated with the improvements. These measures will enhance traffic management at the intersection and improve access to and from surrounding roads.RTA also added new parking spaces along Abu Hail Street and installed lighting poles at existing parking areas, making better use of available space while improving service levels and infrastructure in the surrounding area.The upgrades at Al Qiyadah Intersection are particularly important given its location on Al Ittihad Road, one of the principal corridors serving traffic between Dubai and Sharjah. The intersection also plays a key role in distributing traffic among several major streets in Deira, notably Abu Hail Street, Salah Al Din Street and Al Quds Street.

Sharjah Ruler approves raising decent living standard to AED20,000

SHARJAH, 3rd September, 2026 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved raising the standard of decent living for employees of the Sharjah Government to AED20,000 per month, at an annual cost exceeding AED1.187 billion, effective from September.H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah’s approval also includes raising the standard of decent living for families receiving social support from the Sharjah Government to a minimum level. The decision will benefit 6,652 families, at an annual cost of AED 195,130,164.Following approval, the standard of decent living for Sharjah Government retirees has been raised to the minimum level, benefiting 2,251 retirees, at an annual cost of AED113,056,572.The approval also includes raising the standard of decent living for retirees from outside the Sharjah Government under the “Supplementary Grants” scheme to the minimum level. The decision will benefit 5,300 citizens at an annual cost of AED 159 million.The approval also includes raising the standard of decent living for employees of the Sharjah Government, benefiting 17,776 employees, at an annual cost exceeding AED 720 million.H.H. also directed a 50% reduction in fees for services related to marine vessel berths, with the remaining 50% to be collected for the benefit of fishermen’s societies. This aims to preserve the berths, regulate their use, ensure their sustainability and availability to eligible fishermen and users, and enable fishermen’s societies to fulfil their role in managing and maintaining these facilities and providing related services.This came during a phone-in on the “Al Khat Al Mubasher” (Direct Line) programme, where H.H. explained: “We worked as quickly as possible to finalise and approve an increase in the minimum standard of decent living for beneficiaries of social support, Sharjah Government retirees, citizens who are retirees from outside the Sharjah Government, and Sharjah Government employees. We approved these increases immediately after they were prepared, and there will be no employee whose salary does not increase, including those with high salaries. We have prioritised those in need, who are the categories covered by the approval, as those with high salaries, thankfully, have the means. This work took up all of Wednesday and was completed at 2:30 am on Thursday. Today, we held a productive session, completed all these matters, and linked these approvals to the financial budget. God willing, joy will reach all Sharjah Government employees. A study is currently under way to increase the salaries of the higher-paid categories, and it will be reviewed next week. The allocations for all salaries will be increased. We have observed that salaries in the governments of Abu Dhabi and Dubai are good, and we are moving forward with them, as we are all in one ship protected by Almighty Allah.”H.H. added, "We hope that, following these changes, God willing, every citizen will organise their affairs and avoid taking on unnecessary loans. When a person turns towards saving and frugality, many aspects of their life will improve. We hope that all our sons and daughters will raise their children well. No one should think that we do not notice how they raise their children. We observe every Emirati child from birth until they grow up, and we have not and will not abandon them. When someone asks me how much institutions dedicated to raising and nurturing children and young people cost, I tell them that I spend on raising, educating, entertaining, and keeping my sons and daughters occupied with everything beneficial. All these sports and cultural facilities are funded from the budget, and we have been investing in our children in these fields for around 52 years.”Ruler of Sharjah concluded his remarks by emphasising that good upbringing must be accompanied by wisdom, kindness, and the preservation of dignity.

Private Education Committee of Education, Human Development and Community Development Council discusses new academic year developments, priorities

UAE relief mission departs for Nepal under UAE President’s directives

ABU DHABI, 3rd September, 2026 (WAM) -- In implementation of the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, an Emirati relief mission has departed for the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to provide urgent humanitarian support to those affected by floods and landslides, which resulted in dozens of deaths, injuries and missing persons and caused extensive damage.The dispatch of the mission comes as part of the UAE’s ongoing relief efforts in Nepal.Pursuant to the directives of His Highness the President, the UAE allocated US$10 million to support those affected and dispatched two aid aircraft. The first carried 83 tonnes of food supplies and various shelter materials, while the second carried 45 tonnes of relief supplies, including basic food items, essential supplies and power generators.The mission includes a team specialist team comprising members from the Joint Operations Command, the Dubai Police Search & Rescue Team, and the UAE Aid Agency. It includes experts in disaster relief operations, medical evacuation and first aid to strengthen humanitarian response efforts in affected areas, provide urgent medical assistance to the injured, and support search and rescue operations in coordination with the Nepalese authorities.The US$10 million allocation forms part of the UAE’s efforts to support early recovery and stability and provide essential supplies and basic necessities to people of different age groups amid the difficult circumstances.The UAE Aid Agency, in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Kathmandu, is coordinating efforts with local authorities and relevant international organisations to ensure that relief assistance reaches all affected groups, including men, women and children, and to strengthen coordination of relief efforts in disaster-hit areas.Nepal is one of several beneficiaries of the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian initiatives in 2026, which have spanned 16 countries across four continents, reaffirming the UAE’s established humanitarian approach and its commitment to standing by affected peoples.These efforts reflect the UAE’s leading global role in urgent humanitarian response, stemming from its commitment and active role in strengthening international solidarity, cooperation and humanitarian action, and providing support to peoples in times of crises and disasters.

Dubai Land Department launches AI-powered 'Initial Registration' platform for developers

DUBAI, 3rd September, 2026 (WAM) -- Dubai Land Department (DLD) has launched the Initial Registration platform, integrating project registration, real estate transaction registration and escrow account management into a unified digital journey for developers.Powered by artificial intelligence and process automation, the platform aims to improve efficiency and transparency while supporting Dubai’s growing real estate sector.The launch aligns with the announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, of a new government framework aimed at enabling 50 percent of UAE government sectors, services and operations to operate through autonomous, self-executing artificial intelligence models, or Agentic AI, within two years.The platform reduces repetitive data entry and document submissions while strengthening coordination between developers, DLD and banks managing escrow accounts. It also provides developers with a consolidated view of projects and real estate portfolios.Abdullah Ahmed Al Shehi, CEO of the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA) at DLD, said, “The launch of the ‘Initial Registration’ platform represents an investment in the real estate sector’s efficiency and readiness for its next phase of growth.”He added that deploying artificial intelligence and strengthening integration among stakeholders would enhance ease of doing business, transparency and governance while supporting investor confidence and Dubai’s long-term competitiveness.The platform uses AI to read documents, including Emirates IDs, passports and sales contracts, automatically extract relevant information and populate fields. Standard transactions meeting business requirements can also be processed automatically, with eligible registration transactions approved upon submission.It guides users to the appropriate procedure through a series of questions and allows missing information to be added without requiring applications to be resubmitted.Its Project 360 feature provides an integrated view of unit status, escrow accounts, financial data and project records, along with early warning indicators to identify potential challenges and enable timely intervention.Developers can also use a single account to manage multiple companies and projects, with defined user permissions and separate roles for submitting and reviewing transactions.The platform forms part of DLD’s efforts to develop scalable digital infrastructure for the sector and supports the Dubai Real Estate Strategy 2033 and Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

Vintage cars from 1930s, 1940s steal show at ADIHEX

ADEK, Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority partner to strengthen students’ national identity

From this perspective, we are committed to presenting Emirati heritage through educational and interactive approaches that strengthen students’ connection to their national identity and provide them with broader opportunities to learn about and practise the elements of Emirati heritage and Sana’.”The partnership will be implemented through several programmes during the new academic year, including the Sana’ Programme, targeting teachers and students at 15 private schools and 37 Charter Schools across Abu Dhabi.The programme will train 1,541 teachers, comprising 802 Arabic-speaking and 739 non-Arabic-speaking teachers. It will also feature interactive sessions for students in schools and community majlises to enhance their knowledge of Emirati Sana’, heritage, values, customs and traditions.The Nabati Poetry Programme will also seek to strengthen students’ connection to the UAE’s cultural and linguistic heritage. During the current academic year, it will target Arabic-speaking students from Grades 1 to 5 in private and Charter Schools across Abu Dhabi.Students will learn three poems annually, one per academic term, as part of a pathway designed to enable each student to memorise 15 poems by the end of secondary school.The programme also aims to develop memorisation and recitation skills, enrich vocabulary, and identify and nurture poetic talent from an early age.The MoU reflects both parties’ commitment to integrating their efforts within a shared institutional framework and expanding heritage and educational initiatives across Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Housing Authority opens booking for 1,500 homes in West Baniyas

ABU DHABI, 3rd September, 2026 (WAM) -- The Abu Dhabi Housing Authority Wednesday announced the commencement of the booking and sales process for 1,500 residential units in the West Baniyas Housing Project, marking a strategic shift in how citizens acquire housing benefits in the emirate by allowing beneficiaries to directly select their preferred homes within the development.Developed by Modon Properties, the West Baniyas Housing Project offers an integrated community ecosystem designed to meet the long-term needs of UAE nationals, with overall construction scheduled for completion during the second quarter of 2027. All housing units in the development have been designed to accommodate future physical expansions to support evolving family sizes over time.The authority has adopted a phased digital booking mechanism based on citizenship benefit types, family size, and financial capacity, while incorporating first- and second-degree family data to allow eligible relatives to secure neighboring properties in line with the objectives of the Year of the Family initiative.The initial phase opens exclusively to housing grant beneficiaries and their eligible family members, followed by a second phase dedicated to deferred housing purchase loan recipients, who may select homes matching their loan allocation or opt for higher-tier units by paying the difference.The final phase will open to standard housing purchase loan recipients under established regulatory guidelines, with eligible citizens receiving personalised access links via direct SMS text messaging.

NAMA-PwC study charts pathways to stronger private-sector careers for Emirati women

SHARJAH, 2nd September, 2026 (WAM) -- NAMA Women Advancement Establishment (NAMA), in collaboration with PwC Middle East, has launched a new report examining what enables Emirati women to build, sustain and advance their careers in Sharjah’s private sector, while identifying practical steps employers can take to strengthen the conditions for long-term retention, career progression and the overall workplace experience.Titled Understanding the Perspectives of Emirati Women of Sharjah on the Emirate’s Private Sector, the report draws on a survey of 691 Emirati women, supported by focus groups and discussions with policymakers, employers, HR leaders and government stakeholders. As Emirati women’s participation in the UAE private sector continues to grow, the research turns attention to the next dimension of that progress: ensuring that this growth translates into meaningful, sustained careers and greater opportunities to progress into leadership.The findings provide a detailed picture of the factors influencing women’s career decisions. 62% of respondents say they favour hybrid working arrangements, while working hours and compensation rank among the most important considerations when assessing private-sector opportunities, cited by 76% and 73% respectively.The research also found that 41% of respondents have been with their current organisation for between one and four years, while a further third have stayed for more than five years, reinforcing the opportunity for employers to build on this momentum by creating clearer routes to development, progression and long-term contribution.At the heart of the study is a shift in focus from access to advancement. NAMA and PwC developed the study to provide private-sector employers with a clearer evidence base on the experiences, expectations and ambitions shaping Emirati women’s career decisions in Sharjah. With women accounting for a sizeable percentage of Emiratis employed in the UAE private sector, their ability to build sustained and rewarding careers is increasingly important to the UAE’s wider workforce and economic ambitions.Mariam Al Hammadi, Director General of NAMA Women Advancement, said: “The progress achieved by Emirati women across our national workforce gives us an exceptionally strong foundation. The question before us now is how we build on that foundation. 668 university students from 7 countries benefit from International Student Scholarship Programme

DUBAI, 2nd September, 2026 (WAM) -- The UAE continues to strengthen its global position in education through the International Student Scholarship Programme, overseen by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.Since its launch in 2016, the programme has supported a total of 668 students from seven countries across the Middle East and North Africa. Of these, 330 students are currently pursuing bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees across 11 universities and higher education institutions in the UAE.The programme provides an integrated package of support covering tuition fees, monthly allowances and additional benefits, creating an educational environment that supports students throughout their academic journeys and enables them to pursue excellence.A total of 338 students have graduated from the programme in vital fields, most notably engineering, technology and medical and administrative sciences. This reflects the UAE’s role in preparing qualified professionals equipped to contribute to the development of their home countries.Programme graduates come from Bahrain, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Syria, Chad, the Union of the Comoros and Tunisia. This further strengthens the UAE’s international presence in the academic field and reinforces its educational and cultural ties with other countries.Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said that the International Student Scholarship Programme reflects the wise vision of the UAE’s leadership in making education a bridge for cultural understanding and exchange among peoples.He said, “The programme reflects the UAE’s firm commitment to developing human capabilities as a fundamental pillar for building the future of societies. The opportunity for hundreds of international students to study at UAE universities goes beyond providing them with high-quality educational opportunities; it also contributes to building lasting human, cultural and academic connections whose positive impact extends to their communities for many years to come.”He added, “The UAE has become a global destination for attracting talent and expertise from around the world. We take pride in the contribution of our higher education institutions to preparing a generation of qualified graduates in vital fields, strengthening stability and prosperity in their communities.”Ministry statistics show that engineering and technology attracted the largest share of programme beneficiaries, with 579 students enrolled in these fields, while 89 students pursued programmes in the social sciences, administrative sciences and various medical disciplines.
