Dubai Police recorded 48,950 violations for driving with an expired vehicle registration in the first 10 months of the year, and warned that the risk goes beyond the fine.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said that drivers who put off renewal may also skip the inspections that check tyres, brakes, lights and steering, raising the chance of sudden mechanical failure. Lapsed insurance can add further financial and legal consequences after a collision.
The penalty for driving with an expired registration is a Dh500 fine, four black points and seven days of vehicle impoundment.
January had the most violations with 6,977, followed by February with 6,768 and March with 6,573. May had the fewest, at 984.
Police urged motorists to renew before the expiry date and to pay outstanding fines promptly, noting that both can be done through online smart services.
