11 horses to compete for title of UAE President’s Cup for Purebred Arabian Horses in Kazan

KAZAN, 29th August, 2026 (WAM) -- The Kazan International Racecourse in the Republic of Tatarstan will host the Russia leg of the UAE President’s Cup for Purebred Arabian Horses tomorrow, Sunday 30th August 2026, within the calendar of the 33rd edition, held in conjunction with the 36th National Day Festival of the Republic of Tatarstan.The Cup series is staged in support of plans to develop the Arabian horse racing industry and to sustain the backing of owners and breeders around the world, encouraging them to acquire and breed Arabian horses. This work helps preserve the breed’s authentic heritage, elevate its standing and strengthen its presence at the most significant international festivals and racecourses.The Russia leg will see the participation of 11 horses representing the elite studs and stables of Russia, competing in the Listed category over a distance of 1,800 metres on dirt, for purebred Arabian horses aged four years and above.Tersk Stud, Russia’s leading Arabian breeding operation, fields the strongest hand in the race with three runners: Nimbus Tersk (by Barak out of Nochnaia Fialka, trained by Bayramkulov M.), Voskhod Tersk (by Hyyaf Al Khalediah out of Vereika) and Velbot Tersk (by Barak out of Vereika), both trained by Vasilenko V.Tatneft Company saddles Undertaker (by Benedick out of Ancely), trained by Kappushev M. and ridden by Shegushev A., while owner-trainer combination Kondrashov Y. and Kondrashov A. bring homebred Pafos (by Sunrise Tersk out of Primeta) into contention.The remaining field is completed by Al Dhahabi, Apperkot, Pokroy, Sabur, Miloslav and Big Prize Siver, representing a broad cross-section of Russia’s Arabian horse owners and breeders.The Russia leg carries a distinguished record in the history of the Prestigious Cup. DUBAI, 29th August, 2026 (WAM) -- Sharjah Self-defence Sports Club topped the standings on the opening day of Round 6 of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship at Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex in Dubai.The No-Gi competition on Saturday featured athletes in the Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 categories, representing clubs and academies from across the UAE. The young athletes produced a high technical standard, showing control, quick decision-making and the ability to adapt to the demands of No-Gi competition.ADMA finished second, with Palms Sports in third. Round 6 is the final No-Gi event of the championship this season.The championship gives athletes regular competition and helps clubs identify and develop young talent. It also prepares the next generation of athletes to represent the UAE at regional and international events.The opening-day competitions were attended by Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, and Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, and Mohammed Bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri Board Members of the Federation, along with Federation officials and representatives of partners and sponsors.Yousef Abdullah Al Batran said: “No-Gi competition is a different technical challenge for young athletes. It requires quick reactions, the ability to adapt and good decision-making under pressure. Competing in this format from an early age helps athletes develop their skills and improve step by step.“The strong participation at Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship from clubs and academies shows the continued growth of jiu-jitsu in the UAE. It also increases the level of competition and gives coaches more opportunities to identify and develop promising athletes.”Vitor Junior Teixeira, coach at ADMA Academy, said: “When training young athletes, we focus on control, discipline and staying calm because small technical details can change a match within seconds.“I am pleased with our athletes’ performance and the focus and commitment they showed throughout the competition. Most importantly, their training is helping them become more confident and handle the pressure of competition.”The stands were filled with families supporting the young athletes throughout the day, showing the important role parents play in encouraging children to progress further in their careers.Khamis Mubarak Al Mazrouei, father of Matar and Sultan from Wolves Zone MMA Academy, said: “My sons’ first appearance in the championship was a special moment for our family. I was happy to see them compete with confidence and enthusiasm. The real benefit is what they learn from the experience, including commitment, respect for their opponents and the ability to handle pressure. These values encourage us to continue supporting them throughout their sporting journey.”Sarah Al Haddad, mother of Sari and Abdulsalam Mohamed from Shabab Al Ahli Club, said: “Jiu-jitsu has made a clear difference in my children’s development. It has helped them become more disciplined and confident. It has also taught them to remain calm in victory and defeat and stay focused under pressure.”Matar Al Shamsi of Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club won gold in the Under-12 Grey Belt 50kg division. He said: “I am very happy with the result. I stayed focused in every match and tried to use what I learned in training. No-Gi competition requires quick decisions, and this win will motivate me to keep training, improve and achieve better results in future championships.”Round 6 concludes on Sunday with the Under-18, Adults and Masters divisions, when the season’s final No-Gi standings will be decided.

ABU DHABI, 28th August, 2026 (WAM) -- The UAE Youth Muay Thai Team has returned from the 2026 Arab Muay Thai Youth Championship in Libya with 11 medals, including two gold, six silver and three bronze, across age categories from 10 to 17 years.The performance reflects the readiness of the UAE's next generation of Muay Thai athletes and the sustained preparation programmes delivered by the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation across youth age groups and weight categories.Mohammed Al Shaari won gold in the 16–17 years, 67 kg category, while Aziz Al Hammadi claimed gold in the 14–15 years, 60 kg division.Silver medals went to Faisal Shehab in the 16–17 years, 51 kg category; Youssef Abu Maali in the 14–15 years, 42 kg category; Zayed Al Marzouqi in the 10–11 years, 34 kg category; Ahmed Abu Jaish in the 14–15 years, 75 kg category; Rakan Ahmed in the 14–15 years, 63.5 kg category; and Ammar Abu Jaish in the 12–13 years, 48 kg category.Bronze medals were won by Mohammed Bilal in the 14–15 years, 54 kg category; Saeed Amer in the 14–15 years, 48 kg category; and Mohammed Abu Maali in the 14–15 years, 40 kg category.Ali Khouri, Board Member of the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, said, "This achievement reflects the Federation's vision of building a sporting generation capable of representing the UAE with distinction at Arab and international events."He added that winning 11 medals demonstrates the success of the Federation's preparation and development programmes for young athletes.Khouri said, "We are proud of the athletes who raised the UAE flag high in Libya and proved that the future of the sport is in trusted hands. OSLO, 28th August, 2026 (WAM) -- Emirati racer Alia Abdulsalam Fairooz has achieved an exceptional sporting milestone after successfully surpassing the previous world speed record in the Formula 4 powerboat category, which was held by British racer John Brewer at a speed of 128.7 km/h over a one-kilometre distance.The achievement was accomplished during an official speed attempt held yesterday on the waters of the renowned Lake Songe in the Kingdom of Norway.Alia Abdulsalam recorded a new speed of 129 km/h, exceeding the previous world record.
