DUBAI -- The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced this evening that missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks originating from Iran were intercepted by the country's air defence systems. Following the development, which has raised tensions in the region, civil defence teams were placed on the highest level of alert.

Official Statement from the Ministry of Defence

In a statement, the Ministry said that 4 cruise missiles launched from Iran towards the country's airspace had been detected. Through the immediate response of the air defence systems:

  • 3 of the missiles were destroyed in the air before reaching their target line.

  • 1 missile fell into the sea at a point far from residential areas.

The public was informed that the explosions heard during the operation resulted from the successful response of the air defence systems.

Fire at an Oil Facility in Fujairah

In another element of the attacks, a kamikaze UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) strike targeted the Emirate of Fujairah. Officials confirmed that the UAV, which hit an oil facility, caused a fire.

  • Casualty Information: The Fujairah Media Office reported that 3 Indian nationals working at the facility were moderately injured in the attack and were transferred to hospital.

  • Response: It was reported that the fire was brought under control through the intensive efforts of civil defence teams and that cooling operations were continuing.

Security Warnings and Measures

In response to the attack threat, the Ministry of Interior sent emergency alert messages to citizens' mobile phones, calling on the public to remain in safe areas and to follow only official statements.

Following this development, it was recalled that a new NOTAM had been issued for 4-11 May under the previously lifted airspace restrictions, directing flights into designated security corridors.
