Dubai Municipality launches first youth knowledge exchange programme in Seoul
DUBAI, 11th September, 2026 (WAM) -- Dubai Municipality has launched its first knowledge exchange programme for young Emirati engineers and specialists in Seoul, South Korea, as part of its efforts to develop national capabilities and strengthen the contribution of young professionals to the future of municipal work.The five-month programme will combine academic knowledge, applied research and field-based learning, enabling participants to develop studies, projects and practical solutions across priority areas of city management. It will also provide exposure to South Korea’s experience in urban development and advanced municipal practices, with the aim of adapting relevant knowledge and approaches to Dubai’s future needs.The programme comprises two integrated tracks. The first will be delivered in cooperation with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and will focus on developing studies and applied solutions across selected municipal priorities.The track forms part of the activation of the cooperation agreement between Dubai Municipality and KAIST, supporting research, development and innovation as well as the exchange of knowledge and expertise. It will also contribute to developing the capabilities of young professionals and engineers through joint work in areas including urban planning, city infrastructure management and smart urban solutions that support quality of life.The second track will provide participants with field-based exposure to leading projects and specialised institutions across Seoul and Incheon. The visits will cover urban planning, smart cities, integrated waste management, sustainability and circular-economy practices, design and engineering, and emergency and disaster management.Among the destinations included in the programme is Seoul Upcycling Plaza, where participants will explore approaches to resource reuse and the circular economy, and the Seoul AI Smart City Center, which will provide insight into the use of artificial intelligence, data and smart solutions in city management.Participants will also explore advanced practices in emergency and disaster management, including monitoring and response systems and the coordination of urban operations.The programme includes visits to Dongdaemun Design Plaza, designed by Zaha Hadid, where participants will examine the design concepts and engineering technologies applied to the development, as well as Songdo International Business District, providing exposure to an integrated model of urban planning, smart-city development, infrastructure and municipal services.The programme is designed to connect international learning directly with Dubai Municipality’s operational and development priorities. Participants will examine current and future municipal challenges and use these as a basis for developing applied initiatives and solutions with KAIST, drawing on relevant research and international practices.The programme will focus on three areas supporting municipal operations and city management.The first covers sustainable urban development and regeneration, including city beautification, agriculture and sustainability. Participants will examine approaches to developing people-centred urban areas and neighbourhoods, alongside the planning of integrated infrastructure and considerations related to risk management and business continuity.The second focuses on integrated waste management, exposing participants to practices in waste reduction, recycling at source and circular-economy systems and exploring their potential application to projects that support Dubai’s sustainability objectives.The third focuses on disaster management, including urban resilience, risk assessment, preparedness and technology-enabled response, supporting the development of approaches that strengthen readiness for future challenges.Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the programme reflects the Municipality’s commitment to investing in Emirati capabilities and creating opportunities for young professionals to contribute directly to the future development of the city.He said: “Building the capabilities of Emirati youth is a direct investment in shaping and leading the future of municipal work. Through this programme, we are giving our young engineers and specialists the opportunity to engage with leading international expertise and apply what they learn to the development of practical solutions for Dubai.“Our objective is to turn knowledge exchange into tangible value for the city. Participants will work on challenges and opportunities across municipal fields and develop studies and solutions that can contribute to more efficient city management, greater resilience and an enhanced quality of life.”He added: “Our cooperation with KAIST also reflects Dubai Municipality’s commitment to building strong international links between research, innovation and practical application. UAE endurance team defends World Young Horses titles in Portugal
LISBON, 10th September, 2026 (WAM) -- The UAE national endurance team is set to defend its individual and team titles at the FEI Endurance World Championship for Young Horses (8-year-olds) in Barroca d’Alva, Portugal.Sponsored by Emirates airline and overseen by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI), the 120-kilometre competition features riders from 26 nations across four stages. The 13-strong UAE contingent includes five riders in the main team competition—Salem Hamad Malhoof Al Kitbi, Issa Abdullah Issa, Rashid Al Mheiri, Naser Al Suwaidi, and Ali Al Falasi—alongside eight individual competitors.Following successful weigh-ins, veterinary inspections, and technical briefings, as well as an opening ceremony in Alcochete attended by Dubai Equestrian Club Director-General Ahmed Rashed Al Kaabi, the squad aims to extend its dominant streak following gold-medal sweeps in Sardinia in 2024 and Jullianges in 2025.Trainers Ismail Mohammed and Mohammed Al Subose highlighted the team's extensive preparation, high-calibre horses, and experience, while rider Salem Hamad Malhoof Al Kitbi noted the intense competition, high speeds, and challenging warm-weather conditions expected on the course.
Dubai Media Council launches film & gaming forums at Arab Media Summit 2026
DUBAI, 10th September, 2026 (WAM) -- The Dubai Media Council will put the film and gaming industries at the centre of the Arab Media Summit 2026, through 2 dedicated forums organised by the Dubai Films and Games Commission, convening the people who make, fund and publish both industries across the region and the world.The Summit runs from 15 to 17 September under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council.The Council's participation this year is built around a single question: how does media creativity in film and gaming move from content that is consumed to an economy that is built? UAE-made Badr-250 commands strong interest on debut at Al Alamein Airshow
AL ALAMEIN, Egypt, 10th September, 2026 (WAM) -- G5 Holding Company wrapped up a successful showcase at the Al Alamein International Airshow 2026, where its Badr-250 light attack aircraft generated strong interest from senior officials, military commanders, and international delegations. Marking its public debut at the event, the aircraft was featured prominently in the static display sector among participating international platforms.Visitors had the opportunity to view the Badr-250 up close and learn about its capabilities, technical specifications, and operational potential. The G5 team provided detailed briefings on the aircraft’s design and the missions it was developed to perform, including close air support, reconnaissance, surveillance, armed reconnaissance, and other operational missions.The aircraft generated considerable interest among government officials, specialists, and representatives of military and industrial organizations, who were keen to learn more about its capabilities and the range of missions it can perform, as well as its lightweight design and advanced operational capabilities.The Badr-250 is the first light attack aircraft to be designed, developed, and manufactured entirely in the United Arab Emirates. G5 developed the aircraft to provide multi-mission capabilities within a lightweight aerial platform. It features a carbon-fiber airframe, a single turboprop engine, and a mission system capable of integrating a range of weapons systems and precision-guided munitions.At the company’s indoor exhibition platform, G5 also showcased a range of its defenve products and solutions, including the Badr-250T trainer aircraft, the Cobra unmanned vehicle, AlHeda missiles, the Mazyad vehicle equipped with a rocket-launch system, the AlDeraa short-range air defense system, and the Sweihan armored vehicle, in addition to products developed by the company’s Advanced Industries division. Visitors expressed strong interest in the products and capabilities showcased by the company.G5’s participation also included a series of meetings with government and military organizations, specialized companies, operators, and investors. Several participating representatives expressed interest in G5’s products and capabilities, with discussions focusing on potential cooperation in manufacturing, development, technology integration, and research and development.At the conclusion of the exhibition, the Badr-250 emerged as one of the highlights of G5’s presence, following the significant attention it received from senior officials, military leaders, official delegations, and industry specialists on its debut at the event.
ECB hikes interest rates 25 bps to 2.5% as regional tension fuels inflation risk
BRUSSELS, 10th September, 2026 (WAM) -- The European Central Bank Thursday raised interest rates by 25 basis points to 2.5%, indicating that inflation will remain well above its 2% target for an extended period.The bank explained that tension in the region increases uncertainty, warning of upside risks to inflation and downside risks to economic growth.“The conflict in the Middle East continues to generate inflation pressures, and inflation is set to remain well above target for an extended period,” the ECB said in a statement, adding that its decision underscores its commitment to ensuring that inflation stabilises at 2% in the medium term.
KHDA launches new academic, career guidance framework
DUBAI, 11th September, 2026 (WAM) -- Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has launched the FutuReady Standards – Dubai’s comprehensive academic and career guidance framework designed to prepare students for future learning, work, and life in a rapidly changing world.The FutuReady Framework: The Dubai Standards for Academic Guidance and Career Readiness in Educational Institutions is an overarching framework that establishes clear, practical expectations through nine FutuReady standards. It has been developed to support private educational institutions in Dubai in designing, delivering, and strengthening high-quality academic and career guidance from early years through to graduation, helping students make informed academic and career choices and prepare confidently for futures that are still emerging.The FutuReady Framework demonstrates Dubai’s commitment to building a forward-looking education system that fosters talent development, drives economic growth, and fosters lifelong learning. It aligns closely with Dubai’s Economic Agenda (D33), and the Education 33 (E33) Strategy, which aim to equip learners with the skills, adaptability, and mindset needed to thrive in high-growth sectors and contribute meaningfully to Dubai’s future economy.The FutuReady Standards ensure that every student receives structured academic and career guidance, develops essential life and digital skills, and gains exposure to real-world learning experiences that support informed decision-making and readiness for future career pathways. The standards also emphasise strong professional leadership, active family involvement, access to future-focused technologies such as artificial intelligence, and personalised, inclusive guidance that supports all students, including students of determination.Commenting on the launch, Dr Amna Almaazmi, CEO of Growth and Human Development at KHDA, said: “Many of the jobs our students will do in the future do not yet exist. This is why academic and career guidance today must go beyond helping students choose subjects, programmes or universities. The FutuReady Framework is about preparing young people to navigate uncertainty, develop transferable skills, and make informed decisions throughout their lives. By embedding strong academic and career guidance across all phases of education, we are supporting students to be confident, adaptable, and ready for the jobs of the future.”To support implementation, KHDA has published the FutuReady Framework handbooks for schools and higher education institutions, tailored to each educational context and setting out expected practices and indicators across areas including structured academic and career guidance programmes, future skills, professional capacity and pathways, experiential learning, labour market insights, family and community engagement, digital and AI-enabled guidance, and inclusive, student-centred support. Dubai’s private schools will have three years to implement or further develop their academic and career guidance provision in line with the FutuReady Standards.To help education leaders and practitioners understand the FutuReady Standards and apply the guidance effectively, KHDA will organise a series of workshops to clarify expectations and provide practical guidance.KHDA has also signed a collaboration agreement with the National Career Development Association (NCDA) to support the launch and implementation of the framework. The partnership focuses on research and professional development to strengthen academic and career guidance provision across institutions.Commenting on the collaboration, Dr Brett Anderson, President-Elect of NCDA said: “This collaboration reflects KHDA’s commitment to strengthening future-ready academic and career guidance for students. 28 Dubai Police sites go solar cutting 26,000 tonnes of carbon emissions a year
DUBAI, 11th September, 2026 (WAM) -- Dubai Police has completed the first phase of an ambitious solar energy project that has transformed 28 police sites, delivering an estimated annual reduction of 26,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.The reduction represents 20% of the total carbon emissions generated by Dubai Police buildings, marking a significant step in the organisation’s long term transition towards cleaner energy, greener buildings and more efficient use of resources.The project, led by the General Department of Logistics Support, was originally launched during COP28 in 2023 and forms part of a 25 year strategy to progressively introduce solar energy solutions across Dubai Police buildings and facilities.The first phase covered 28 locations, including police stations, general departments and other police buildings and facilities.Rather than applying a single solution across every site, the project considers the age, design and operational requirements of individual buildings to ensure that sustainable technologies can be introduced without affecting police operations or services.Engineer Maryam Rashid Bonfour, Director of the Energy Efficiency Projects Portfolio at the Environment, Health and Safety Department of the General Department of Logistics Support, said the initiative goes beyond simply installing solar energy systems.She explained that it forms part of a broader vision to improve the efficiency of police buildings and facilities, optimise resource consumption, reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the transition towards environmentally friendly green buildings.According to Bonfour, the first phase has succeeded in preparing 28 sites to contribute to an annual reduction of 26,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.This is equivalent to around 20% of the total carbon emissions associated with Dubai Police buildings.The achievement supports wider national and Dubai strategies for clean energy, carbon reduction and the green transformation of buildings, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.The solar project is designed as a long term transformation rather than a one off initiative.“The project extends over 25 years and is being implemented through carefully planned phases that take into consideration the nature, age, design and operational requirements of police buildings,” Bonfour said.This includes both existing facilities and new buildings developed according to Dubai Police operational requirements.She said the approach is intended to ensure that sustainable solutions remain efficient and viable over the long term without compromising the efficiency of police services and operations.Dubai Police is now preparing to begin the second phase during the final quarter of 2026, progressively extending solar energy solutions to additional buildings and facilities.The project supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions, with the aim of helping double the reduction in carbon emissions to 50% by the end of 2030.It also reinforces Dubai Police’s wider commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management.Dubai Police previously became the first police organisation in the world to officially join the United Nations Global Compact, adopting its ten principles covering human rights, decent labour standards, anti-corruption and environmental responsibility.

BERLIN, 10th September, 2026 (WAM) -- UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Excellency Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, today witnessed the announcement of a number of agreements, memoranda of understanding and letters of intent aimed at further advancing cooperation between the two countries across a range of priority sectors.The announcement took place as part of His Highness’ state visit to Germany.The agreements seek to build upon the long-term partnership between the UAE and Germany and expand cooperation within the framework of their strategic partnership, particularly in the areas of economic development, advanced technology, and energy.The agreements, MOUs and letters of intent announced today include:1.
