UAE-US mediation efforts have successfully facilitated a prisoner exchange of 600 individuals between Russia and Ukraine for the second consecutive day.

ABU DHABI, March 7, 2026 (WAM) -- The United Arab Emirates announced the success of new mediation efforts conducted in collaboration with the United States between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. As a result of these efforts, 600 prisoners were released over two consecutive days—300 from each side—bringing the total number of exchanges in two days to 1,000. This increased the total number of prisoners exchanged between the two countries through the UAE to 5,955. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to both countries for their cooperation in the UAE-U.S. mediation efforts, stating that this reflects recognition of initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis between the two nations. The Ministry noted that the UAE has successfully facilitated 20 mediation efforts, highlighting the depth of its relations with Russia and Ukraine, the trust both countries place in the UAE, and its role as a reliable mediator in advancing diplomatic and humanitarian solutions. The UAE reiterated its commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution to the crisis, while alleviating humanitarian impacts and strengthening opportunities for peace, stability, and prosperity at both regional and global levels. The UAE hosted two rounds of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi involving the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and the United States, reflecting its determination to promote dialogue and international cooperation, as well as its confidence in the role of the international community in facilitating negotiations.
