His Highness Sheikh Mohammed has announced that an artificial intelligence curriculum will be rolled out across all public and private schools in the United Arab Emirates, making the country one of the first in the region to teach AI as a formal school subject.

The new curriculum will cover how artificial intelligence works, including AI data, algorithms, applications, the risks involved and the principles of ethical use. The aim is to give students a working understanding of the technology rather than only how to operate it.

Alongside the student programme, 22,000 teachers will be trained in artificial intelligence. Educators will learn how to use AI for teaching, assessment, lesson planning and curriculum analysis, and will be shown how to apply the technology as a tool that supports learning and encourages student innovation.

According to the UAE Cabinet, a pilot programme already run in public schools delivered positive results, paving the way for the wider rollout.
