Motorists across the United Arab Emirates can now sign up to have four black points removed from their traffic records, provided they follow the rules of the road and meet the conditions set out by the programme.

The initiative is part of the Ministry of Interior's "Day Without Accidents" campaign, which will be held on 31 August, coinciding with the start of the new school year.

Authorities say the aim of the campaign is to encourage drivers to slow down, stay alert and drive safely at a time when roads around schools become considerably busier. Traffic volumes around school zones typically rise sharply in the first weeks of term, and officials are urging drivers to pay particular attention to school buses, pedestrian crossings and children walking near the roadside.

Drivers who take part and complete the accident-free period under the campaign's conditions will see four points deducted from their traffic file.
