His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced that an artificial intelligence curriculum will be introduced across all public and private schools in the United Arab Emirates, making AI a formal part of what pupils learn rather than an optional extra.

The new curriculum is designed to teach students how artificial intelligence actually works. It covers AI data and algorithms, real-world applications of the technology, the risks it carries, and the principles of ethical and responsible use.

The initiative extends beyond students. Some 22,000 teachers are to be trained in artificial intelligence, learning how to apply it to teaching, assessment, lesson planning and curriculum analysis. Educators will be prepared to treat the technology as a tool that supports learning and encourages innovation among students, rather than as a replacement for classroom instruction.

According to the UAE Cabinet, a pilot programme already run in public schools produced positive results, paving the way for the nationwide rollout.
