Egypt's Foreign Ministry has denied reports of widespread dismissals of Egyptian workers in the UAE, saying the videos circulating on social media relate to separate individual cases.
Speaking to Ahram Online, Assistant Foreign Minister Haddad El-Gohary said the ministry had verified several of the cases shared on social media with the UAE authorities.
He said the UAE is reviewing residency permits and entry visas, but stressed that there is no broader issue affecting Egyptian workers.
Emirati politician Anwar Gargash has also dismissed online rumours claiming that the UAE is cancelling residency visas for people from certain countries, calling the claims false.
He added that under UAE rules residents generally cannot stay outside the country for more than six months, and that this applies to all nationalities. Some of the cases circulating online also involved people who entered on tourist visas but were unable to secure jobs or switch to work visas.
