If you have been ignoring those traffic fine SMS notifications, consider this your official reminder to clear them as soon as possible.
Dubai Police have impounded 497 vehicles during the first half of 2026. The reason: thousands of dirhams in accumulated traffic fines and years of expired vehicle registrations.
Traffic teams cracking down on delinquent drivers found that some vehicles were still on the road with unpaid penalties running into tens of thousands of dirhams.
However, Dubai Police do not impound vehicles without warning. Before any vehicle is seized, the authorities contact owners directly by phone call, SMS and email to give them a chance to settle their accounts.
Ignoring fines does not make them disappear. It leads to impound fees, blocked vehicle transactions and legal trouble.
Drivers are advised to keep their contact details updated with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) so that no notification or fine alert is missed, and to check their traffic file regularly.
