Dubai Police have impounded 497 vehicles during the first half of 2026, citing thousands of dirhams in accumulated traffic fines and years of expired vehicle registrations.

Traffic teams carrying out the crackdown found that some of the vehicles were still on the road despite unpaid penalties running into tens of thousands of dirhams.

Authorities stressed that vehicles are not seized without warning. Before an impoundment is carried out, owners are contacted directly by phone call, SMS and email and given the opportunity to settle their outstanding fines.

Police warned that ignoring fine notifications does not make the penalties disappear: it results in additional impound fees, blocked vehicle transactions and possible legal consequences.

Motorists are advised to keep their contact details up to date with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) so that fine alerts and notifications are not missed, and to review their traffic file regularly.
