Del Toro from UAE Team Emirates has won the Tirreno-Adriatico championship.
ABU DHABI, March 15, 2026 (WAM) -- Isaac Del Toro secured overall victory in the 2026 Tirreno-Adriatico by confidently completing the final stage to San Benedetto del Tronto, maintaining the leader's jersey with the support of his UAE Team Emirates-XRG teammates. The Mexican cyclist remounted his bike after a crash with 90 kilometers to go and safely reached the finish line within the peloton, solidifying his dominance in the prestigious Italian UCI WorldTour stage race. The traditional closing stage concluded with a group sprint won by Jonathan Milan from Lidl-Trek on a 142-kilometer route from Civitanova Marche to San Benedetto del Tronto. A crash in the final kilometers split the peloton but did not affect the overall standings, allowing Del Toro to secure his championship. Del Toro built his victory during the decisive stages earlier in the week in the Apennines. He reclaimed the race lead on the mountainous course of the fifth stage and won the summit finish in Camerino on the sixth stage by responding to attacks from Giulio Pellizzari and Matteo Jorgenson and launching his own attack in the final meters. This stage victory increased his advantage entering the final day, allowing him to maintain control of the overall standings. Del Toro stated, “This is a very special victory for me and my team. Tirreno-Adriatico is one of the most prestigious races on the calendar, and winning here means a lot.” He added, “The team supported me every day in the climbs and against the wind, and even after the crash today, they brought me safely to the finish. It wouldn’t have been possible without them. Now I will take a few easier days and focus on Milan-San Remo.”
