Facebook, Instagram down for thousands of users
WASHINGTON, 21st September, 2026 (WAM) -- Meta's Facebook and Instagram platforms were hit by outages affecting a large number of users in several countries overnight Sunday into Monday, with users reporting problems accessing the platforms and using some of their services.Outage-tracking website Downdetector showed thousands of reports of issues with Facebook and Instagram in the United States, along with reports from users in several other countries.According to Reuters, more than 17,000 reports of issues with Facebook and more than 5,000 reports of issues with Instagram were recorded as of 01:11 GMT, according to Downdetector, which tracks outages by aggregating reports from multiple sources.

Oil prices rise, Brent tops $104 pb
SINGAPORE, 21st September, 2026 (WAM) -- Oil prices rose on Monday, with Brent crude futures gaining 81 cents, or 0.78 percent, to US$104.68 a barrel by 2202 GMT.US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 76 cents, or 0.76 percent, to US$101.06 a barrel.Oil prices have remained above US$100 a barrel amid concerns over global supplies, with recent disruptions to key Middle East energy infrastructure and shipping routes adding to market uncertainty.

SHARJAH, 20th September, 2026 (WAM) -- The University of Sharjah (UOS) has ranked first in the UAE in dentistry and oral sciences, clinical medicine and nursing in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.UOS was ranked in 10 academic fields and placed second nationally in five: energy science and engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and education.Globally, the University ranked among the world's top 200 institutions in dentistry and oral sciences, energy science and engineering, and electrical and electronic engineering, with all three subjects placed in the 151-200 range.Clinical medicine, nursing and mechanical engineering ranked within the 201-300 range, while chemical engineering and telecommunications engineering were placed among the top 400.
